NORMAN – Oklahoma women’s golf head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell announced the signing of Meagan Winans, a member of the 2021 recruiting class, on Thursday.
Winans will join the program in the fall of 2021 after verbally committing in November of 2018. The Plano East High School product has been dominant in her junior golf career, earning AJGA All-American honors this summer. The Richardson, Texas, product has notched a top-five or better finish in every high school event she’s competed in, collecting All-District, All-Region and All-State honors at the 6A level in Texas. She took home medalist honors at her 2018 Women’s Amateur Qualifier and was the low amateur at the 2019 Texas Women’s Open.
“Meagan comes in with a very strong resume. She’s going to be a great addition to our team and is a huge recruit for us,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “Obviously, she’ll be joining her sister Libby here in Norman, and having both of the Winans girls on our team is cool for their family and us as a program.”
Winans is the No. 13 recruit in the country and No. 2 in the state of Texas per Golfweek. She was the AJGA Champion in the Patrick Reed Invitational and the Legends Junior Champion in the James. A. Ragan Memorial in 2019. Her top-five finish in the Kathy Whitworth Invitational has helped her earn her place near the top of the 2021 rankings.
“Oklahoma is just a place where I see myself improving and winning a national championship with my teammates,” Winans said. “I’m comfortable with the coaches and know that we have a great relationship through golf. The on-campus practice facilities and support from prominent alumni make OU a unique and elite Division I golf program.”
Winans will join her sister Libby, a junior on the team, next fall when she tees it up for the Sooners.
Drouin-Luttrell’s squad will get back in action in the spring of 2021 after a fall slate where the Sooners were ranked as high as No. 2 and ended the fall season ranked No. 12.
