Tulsa finishes third in American Athletic Conference Championship
The University of Tulsa finished with a final round of even-par 288 Wednesday but fell from second to third in the American Athletic Conference Championship at Southern Hills Golf Club in Brooksville, Fla.
Southern Methodist, which was tied with Tulsa midway through the second round, pulled away for a 20-shot victory over TU and by 14 shots over second-place Houston, which surpassed TU by shooting 6-under 282 Wednesday. SMU raced away with a 14-under final round of 274, including 67s by individual winner Michelle Zang and by Lauren Miller, who tied for fifth.
Lovisa Gunnar shot 2-under 70 in the final round to lead the Hurricane and finished in a tie for eighth individually at 2-under 214. Sydney Seigel (72) and Lilly Thomas (74) wound up in a tie for 11th at 1-under 215. Jenni Roller closed with a 74 and tied for 14th at 1-over 217, while Grace Kilcrease shot 72 and tied for 21st at 219.
The NCAA Women’s Golf Selection Show will take place next Wednesday, April 26, where Tulsa will find out if it receives an invitation to the NCAA field for the second time in three seasons.
