Defending champion Jamie Voegeli and 63 other top Oklahoma amateurs are in action today in pursuit of the Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Broken Arrow.

Here is the bracket.

The first and second rounds are today, followed by the round of 16 and the quarterfinals on Tuesday. Semifinals and finals are Wednesday. Scoring will be available on www.okgolf.org with complete coverage on this site.

Voegeli struck a blow for the mid-amateurs fending off the top collegiate and high school players in 2020 and he’ll have some company this year although the majority of the field is under 25. Mike Gotcher, 50, who finished as runner-up in the OGA Senior State Amateur last week at Meadowbrook CC, 22-time OGA winner Michael Hughett, Luke Phillips, Cedar Ridge member Rob Laird, Tyler Hunt, Kyle Hudelson and Harley Abrams are a few of the over 30 crowd that could make a run.

Cedar Ridge has fairly ample room for driving but the green complexes are demanding. The length of today’s players has taken the sting out of many of its demanding par-4s, but just as the bombers can get on a birdie run things can turn south quickly if they are not accurate both off the tee and with their approach shots. It should be a great venue for the championship.
