Worrell takes early lead in second Web.com Tour event

Enid native, former University of Tulsa star and current Jenks resident Chris Worrell shot a 6-under-par 66 to take the first round lead in The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic, the second event of the season on the Web.com Tour and the second consecutive event held in the Bahamas.

Worrell, making his Web.com Tour debut two weeks ago, was blown off the course in the gusty season-opener but handled the winds spectacularly Sunday. The tournament continues through Wednesday.

Other players with Oklahoma ties include former Oklahoma State star Jordan Niebrugge, tied for 13th at 1-under through 13 holes, former Oklahoma Sooner Abraham Ancer, tied for 37th at 1 over through 15 holes, former Sooner Michael Gellerman, tied for 50th at 74, Edmond’s Rhein Gibson, tied for 77th at 76; Talor Gooch of Midwest City, tied for 100th at 78; and Taylor Moore of Edmond, tied for 112th with a 79.
